Candidates will have leadership experience and passion for physical activity.

Participants at an Active Together 'Let's Get Moving' event.

A new chairperson is being sought to lead Active Together in its mission to get Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) moving.

The Loughborough-based organisation works with local authorities, sporting, and community groups with the shared goal of getting residents active.

The chair’s role will focus on reducing inequality of access to physical activity.

It will also be aimed at encouraging under-represented groups in LLR to realise the many wellbeing and social benefits of living an active life.

Heading up the organisation for the next three years, the chair will oversee the wide range of activities and programmes provided by Active Together and its partners.

With a team of more than 25 staff, the successful candidate will also lead the board and have experience in a senior leadership position.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, a passion for physical activity, and an in-depth understanding of Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and the local area’s population and demographic.

The description of the role sets out how Active Together wants its new chair to:

  • have vision and be forward thinking

  • be committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, ensuring that the Active Together Board, Team and partners champion this agenda

  • advocate the benefits of physical activity

  • be innovative in challenging the board and team to explore new ways of making physical activity accessible, fun, and transformative.

The appointed candidate will be responsible for shaping the organisation’s long term strategy by aligning it with national objectives and local needs.

They will also be the public face of Active Together, promoting active wellbeing through conferences, events and in the media.

The part-time voluntary role has a minimum term of three years. Applications are being accepted now ahead of the January 7, 2024 deadline.
