Phoenix Arts Launch New Programme

Phoenix, Leicester's independent cinema and art centre, is excited to announce the launch of PLATFORM, a new initiative designed to empower filmmakers and digital visual artists in Leicester.

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Leicester City Council, PLATFORM aims to build a supportive environment for creative professionals to connect, learn, and collaborate.

Developed by Leicester-based filmmakers and artists who understand the complexities of sustaining a creative career, PLATFORM seeks to strengthen the city's creative scene and contribute to a vibrant cultural landscape.

Two Strands of Events: PLATFORM Filmmakers Network and PLATFORM Artists Network. The PLATFORM programme offers two event strands, each catering to different creative disciplines: the PLATFORM Filmmakers Network and the PLATFORM Artists Network.

Both strands will host monthly events, featuring talks by industry professionals followed by structured networking sessions. These events will provide valuable insights, practical advice, and opportunities to connect with peers.

Whether working in film, TV, or digital art, participants will find a space for exchanging ideas, gaining industry knowledge, and tips for developing their careers.

PLATFORM network lead, Keith Allott, said of the programme: "PLATFORM is about bringing Leicester’s filmmakers and digital artists together in a space where they can learn, grow, and be inspired.

"We understand the challenges of building a sustainable career in the creative sector, and that’s why we’re committed to providing a safe and supportive environment where talent can access industry insights, connect with others, and cultivate the skills they need to thrive."

Business Development Lab

In addition to its regular events, PLATFORM will feature a business development lab designed for filmmakers and digital artists seeking guidance on becoming registered freelancers or starting their own companies.

Future Opportunities for Co-Creation

The PLATFORM programme is funded from November 2024 to April 2025 and committed to evolving with the needs of its community. Should additional funding become available, the PLATFORM team will work closely with participants to co-curate future programmes, ensuring the initiative remains relevant and beneficial for Leicester’s creative professionals.
