Reviewed: a delightful evening at The Monk in Quorn

'The Monk is both classy and approachable'.

I had the pleasure of dining last Thursday at The Monk in Quorn, a stunning restaurant that combines a relaxed atmosphere with a touch of elegance. The experience was nothing short of delightful, in-fact so good I felt eager to share the highlights of my evening.

One of the standout features at The Monk is their Thursday night prix fixe menu, offering excellent value at £29 for two courses or £35 for three courses. Personally, I indulged in the tempura-battered tiger prawns. This dish was a sensory delight, featuring marinated tomatoes, a masala dressing frisée salad, coriander, and a delectable mango jam. The prawns, with their perfect crunch and flavourful accompaniments, were worth the £5 supplement.

For the main course, I chose the dry-aged 6oz fillet steak. This dish was a masterpiece, served with sweetcorn purée, buttered kale, rosemary onions, a side of truffle mashed potatoes, all complemented by a blue cheese sauce. The blue cheese sauce had a £3 surcharge, but every dip into it was worth it. The combination of flavours and textures was extraordinary, making the dish a highlight of the evening.

No great meal is complete without a fine wine, and The Monk’s owner Simon was more than happy to assist in selecting the perfect bottle. We opted for a bottle of Codici, a rich and smooth Primitivo that paired beautifully with the steak. Side note: Simon is available for private wine tasting with prices started from £30.

The atmosphere at The Monk is both classy and approachable, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed yet special evening out. Despite the high-quality cuisine and service, the prices are very affordable, adding to the overall appeal of the restaurant.

My experience at The Monk in Quorn was exceptional. The combination of a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere, delicious food, and excellent service makes it a place I highly recommend. Treat yourself to an unforgettable dining experience at The Monk – you won’t be disappointed.
